Mark Harmon continues to work as an executive producer and narrator on the TV series NCIS: Origins and recently reprized his role in the film sequel Freakier Friday. He is not retired and maintains an active career in acting, producing, and authoring.

NCIS: Origins He serves as an executive producer and the narrator for this prequel series, which explores the early career of his iconic character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs. He also made a guest appearance in the 2024 pilot episode and a November 11, 2025 crossover special with the main NCIS series.
Freakier Friday Harmon returned to film acting for the sequel to the 2003 Disney film Freaky Friday, reprising his role as Ryan, the title character’s stepfather. The film was released in 2025.
Author In 2023, he co-authored the bestselling book Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, a Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor with retired NCIS Special Agent Leon Carroll Jr., and a second book, Ghosts of Panama, followed in 2024.
